      Cyrus the Great

In 539 BCE Cyrus the Great, an exceptional ruler, took possession of Babylon – a remarkable event that is often described as a peaceful conquest and retold in the Babylonian Chronicles and on the Cyrus Cylinder. Dr. Sabrina Maras, Visiting Scholar in the Department of Near Eastern Studies at UC Berkeley, will supplement what is known about one of the more interesting ancient rulers through a look at the elegant art and architecture of his capital and final resting place, Pasargadae (in present-day Iran).

Co-presented with the Society for Asian Art.
