Peninsula Community Services, Inc. launches its new Enhanced Harm Reduction for Hoarders – Certification Workshop” for first responders and other professionals who provide services to compulsive hoarders.

San Mateo County, CA March 23, 2012 – Peninsula Community Services, Inc. (PCS), will conduct a one day intensive training program at the Sobrato Nonprofit Conference Center in Redwood Shores. The event is intended for first responders and other providers interested in using the Enhanced Harm Reduction approach in difficult hoarding situations.

Alan Merrifield, President & Chief Executive Officer of PCS, has assembled a team of mental health professionals to conduct this workshop. All are experienced in the treatment of hoarding disorders and in applying the harm reduction approach as an economical public health intervention to help the county’s 15,000 most resistant hoarders who may lack sufficient insight or motivation to benefit from traditional forms of treatment.

The primary purpose of the EHR Workshop is to prepare participants to serve on local harm reduction teams that will help hoarders “de-hazardize” their home and transform them to safer, healthier and more comfortable places where they can thrive and where emergency responders can enter without undue concern for their own personal safety.

Professionals wishing to register for the May 17th EHR Workshop, or just wanting to obtain additional information, are urged to contact us prior to the May 4th registration deadline.
