Everything I Learned About Scaling Online Games I Learned at Google & DARPA

Join us for a great talk from KIXEYE’s CTO, Randy Shoup, and Manager of Systems Performance, Larry Mellon. While the worlds of ecommerce, search and training simulations might seem as far from the gaming industry as one might imagine, lessons learned in those environments are surprisingly applicable to online games. Come and hear how it all comes together!

This event will take place at KIXEYE on September 13 at 5:30pm. KIXEYE will be providing snacks and refreshments for attendees. All attendees will need to bring ID to check in at the lobby and will be sent up to the 19th floor where an NDA will be required to enter on the 19th floor.

      Randy Shoup

Randy brings 25 years of engineering leadership to KIXEYE, ranging from tiny startups to Internet-scale companies.   Prior to KIXEYE, he was Director of Engineering at Google, leading several teams building Google App Engine, the world's largest Platform as a Service.

Prior to Google, he was CTO and Co-Founder of Shopilly, an ecommerce startup, and spent 6 1/2 years as Chief Engineer and Distinguished Architect at eBay, building several successive generations of eBay's real-time search infrastructure.  He was Chief Architect and Fellow at Tumbleweed Communications, and has held various engineering and architecture roles at Oracle and Informatica.

Randy has extensive experience operating Internet-scale services at eBay and Google.  He speaks regularly at industry and academic conferences about distributed computing, large-scale infrastructure, and reliability.

      Larry Mellon

      Manager of Systems Performance, KIXEYE

With over a dozen GDC lectures, Larry Mellon is an established thought leader in how to accelerate the production of online games via automated testing and metrics-driven development. His background in the scalability of parallel simulations and distributed virtual worlds from DARPA's Advanced Distributed Simulation and Synthetic Theatre of War programs provides the basis for solutions that support the rapid prototyping, visibility and stability at scale requirements encountered while bringing MMO games into EA and browser games into KIXEYE.

Founded in 2007, KIXEYE is an online gaming company that plays to win. Responsible for popular titles like Backyard Monsters, Battle Pirates and War Commander, KIXEYE is redefining the intersection of game development and technology to create innovative browser-based experiences for competitive gamers.
