Fireside chat with Glenn Greenwald and Wayne Hsiung

Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) invites you to a provocative fireside chat with Pulitzer prize-winning investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald, along with DxE co-founder and lead investigator Wayne Hsiung. Greenwald and Hsiung will discuss the parallel dangers of unchecked power both within government bodies and multinational food companies, the history of activist repression, and how activist communities everywhere can overcome these challenges to build a better world. Glenn Greenwald is one of the world’s most renowned journalists and preeminent voices on the dangers of global surveillance and eroding privacy rights. He is most known for his groundbreaking reports in 2013 unveiling the unprecedentedly vast scale of surveillance capabilities of the NSA, based on documents Edward Snowden provided him. This series of reporting ignited a worldwide conversation on government overreach and privacy rights overnight - a conversation that still burns brightly particularly in the tech industry today. In 2017, Greenwald wrote a viral exposé on the FBI’s hunt for two baby piglets whom DxE saved from Smithfield -- the largest pig farm in the world. During this exclusive event, join Greenwald and DxE co-founder Wayne Hsiung for a conversation on how we can spark a worldwide revolution for animal rights in the media and effectively challenge companies like Smithfield, which kills millions every year. Wayne Hsiung is a former law professor, co-founder and lead open rescue investigator at Direct Action Everywhere. He has investigated dozens of farms across the world; and has helped re-establish ‘open-rescue’ investigations in the United States. As someone with a background of behavioral economics, Hsiung is a strong advocate of nonviolent but disruptive activism - often leading disruptive protests and mass open-rescues in broad daylight. The event will include a mixer with Hors d'oeuvres and drinks.Cocktail attire.
