The Oshman Family JCC (OFJCC) presents a family friendly version of the classic fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel, with orchestral music and multimedia visuals. The performance features a live orchestra and pre/post-show children's activities, including an instrument petting zoo, a dance demonstration and cookie decorating. Guest narrators will tell the tale in English, Russian, Mandarin and Hebrew in four separate 45 minute performances. The orchestra is led by San Francisco Ballet conductor, maestro Ming Luke who returns to the OFJCC for his second multicultural children's performance. This more upbeat version of the classic children's fairy tale is appropriate for children two years and up.

Showtimes for each of the performances will be at:
      10:30 AM: English
      11:30 AM: Russian
      1:30 PM: Mandarin
      2:30 PM: Hebrew

Hansel and Gretel is a well-known fairy tale of German origin, written by the Brothers Grimm and published in 1812. Hansel and Gretel are a young brother and sister who meet a witch living deep in the forest in a house constructed of cake and candy. The two children manage to save their own lives by outwitting her.

In constant demand as a conductor, pianist and educator, Ming Luke is known for his energetic performances. This past year alone, he has worked with ensembles in Moscow, London, Vienna, Salzburg, the Czech Republic and the U.S. Locally, he has worked with the San Francisco Ballet, Opera San Jose, Sacramento Opera, Napa Regional Dance Company, Sacramento Philharmonic and the Napa Valley Symphony.

Members of the community are encouraged to submit drawings of scenes from Hansel and Gretel which will be included in the show's media presentation. These images will be screened behind the orchestra to illustrate the story. Please submit any artwork to
