Love with Special Sauce, Irma Thomas, Big Joe Turner, The Coasters, Chuck Berry, Creedance Clearwater, Van Morrison, Peter Green, Fats Domino, Otis Redding, and more! Jimmy Carmichael, Vocals, Saxophone, Keyboards Jimmy sez’: It’s hailing from Fairfield, Alabama in the Heart of Dixie and growing up in the unique cultural/musical mélange that was the South in the 1950’s-60’s that gave him a superb slice of diverse musical influences and a solid chunk of love for music. He picked up his first saxophone in 1962, soon began adding his singing talents and in the ensuing years has been able to share that love of music with listeners, and fellow players in countless venues. Among these notably; he played throughout Alabama with The Kombination (’64-’69) doing soul, motown & rock. After moving to the SF Bay Area, with Escapade/Swing Fever he played northern Califonia doing country, bluegrass, swing & original tunes (’75-’79). Jim is now a safety & health professional after years in the printing trade and life is graced by his wife Susie and his friends & family. With High MIleage, Jimmy rejoins his longtime bassist & friend Dan Swetlik and new talented bandmates. Its a nice mix of players, styles and tunes that is still developing and …we hope that folks will enjoy! Joey Pereira, Guitar, Vocals Joey got his first guitar at 15. Coming from a family of musicians where his father and three brothers played; guitar, piano and drums, he was able to form a band. They played at local dances. Even had the opportunity to play at the Sacramento Convention Center and the San Francisco Opera house. Over the years Joey and the brothers have written many songs. CDs were given only to family members.. Today, playing with High Mileage has been nothing but fun Barry Shaver, Guitar, Vocals Barry got his first guitar at the age of 10, a Sears Silvertone with a small amplifier. It was the start of a love /hate relationship. He “loved” to play, but his parents “hated” it loud. By high school and the “Summer of Love,” Barry joined the band at school and started playing trombone, through a generous donation by his Grandfather, a jazz player from the old days. Three years of orchestral, jazz and improvisational playing, led him back to his first love, the guitar, where he took up residence and still resides today. Barry toured with the soul band, “Pacific Spirit” for years and resides in California today, playing with numerous artists from the Bay Area– “The Blue Riders” and ”Bud Ugley and the Cheeks,” to name a few. His style grew out of the love for the music he grew up with and plays today. Daniel Swetlik, Bass, Vocals Daniel began his musical journey as a teen on drums in his parent’s living room and quickly progressed to the garage playing guitar and writing songs of his own. After studying cello and playing with the high school band and orchestra, Daniel was inspired to play bass where he discovered the best of both worlds: the percussive qualities that he loved with drums and the spectrum between warmth and edge that strings offer. Early bands included Bat Boys, Escapade and other R&B and rock ensembles. After several years on tour through the Pacific Northwest playing electric bass with Swing Fever (also with Jimmy Carmichael on lead vocals, key board and sax) Daniel returned to his native San Mateo, where, in addition to playing electric bass with High Mileage, he also plays double bass with the Peninsula Symphony. His passion for music naturally led him to his interest in making violins and he soon opened a small string shop, which operates out of his home near downtown San Mateo. A Music Connection sells everything from student violins to high-end cellos. Started playing drums at the age of nine back in 1974. WOW! What fun it has been. Elementary Concert Band with Mr.Walton, from there it progressed to Jr High School Concert Band with Mr. Howard Dudune and as High School approached I played under the direction of Mr. Mike Galisatus in the Concert Band, Symphonic Band and the Blue Knight Jazz Band. Most enjoyable was rocking out with my friends, playing in numerous garage bands and playing a variety of different music generes. Most memorable though, was to be given a chance to play on TV. As time went on playing wasn’t my main focus anymore. It was my career instead. It was the stability I needed. So I went on to trade school and became a Union Electrician in the County of San Mateo, Local 617. I still played with friends when the opportunity came around and continued to practice and explore different types of music.
