Concerned about climbing housing costs and lengthening commutes? Interested in innovative and time-tested solutions? Hear from housing experts and leaders in the field about the pressing need for housing across the income spectrum in Fremont and across the Bay Area, and innovate ways to make Fremont a better place to live. Join Connect Fremont and the League of Women Voters for an evening of conversation and learning with our guests Nathan Ho and Louis Chicoine. Nathan Ho is the Senior Director of Housing and Community Development at the Silicon Valley Leadership Group. He leads the housing policy portfolio, advocating for policies, projects, and public funding at the local, regional, state, and federal levels that encourage healthy and smart economic and community growth. Previously, he was the Policy and Communications Manager at Eden Housing, one of California’s oldest nonprofit affordable housing developers, where he led the organization’s efforts in advocacy, policy research, internal and external communications, and strategic messaging. Louis Chicoine has been the Executive Director Abode Services for more than 20 years, helping the organization grow into the leading provider of housing and services to residents experiencing homelessness in Alameda, Santa Clara, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, and Napa counties. During his tenure, Abode Services has grown from a local “start-up” with one shelter serving 66 adults and children into a regional organization that owns and operates hundreds of supportive housing units and provides services to more than 6,100 adults and children each year. Louis has been elected to serve as President of the Alameda County Council of Mental Health Agencies and chosen to be on the board of directors for Destination:Home. He currently serves on the Alameda Health System Board of Trustees. The League of Women Voters of Fremont, Newark, and Union City is a nonpartisan organization that encourages the informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
