Revision Ready: Edtech Mixer & Panel

Revision Ready is a happy hour event at the TriplePoint San Francisco office to discuss how the landscape of publishing in education is changing and the innovative companies working to improve it. The Revision Ready mixer will bring together educators, students, investors, executives, and entrepreneurs to discuss how technology has disrupted existing publishing models and made it possible to provide better resources to students.

Publishing in education has changed and improved drastically in the last few years due to the growing amount of open source material and OER (open educational resources), tools such as tablets and e-books that change the way we interact with the written word, and big data to help direct the right resources to the students who need them most.

We'll explore all these changes and more at our mixer. We're pleased to announce the companies appearing on our panel, who are on the front lines of 21st century publishing:

Junyo: Junyo leverages the power of data and anaylitcs to improve learning processes. Their new platform, EdLights, is a powerful market-intelligence platform delivering customized insights about the K12 educational market. Junyo will be discussing how EdLights' analyical tools empower publishers and suppliers to better understand district and school needs, connect with K12 decisionmakers, and deliver the right content at the right time.

OpenStax College: OpenStax College is a nonprofit organization providing open-source, quality textbooks and learning materials to students. Their free textbooks are developed and peer-reviewd by educators to ensure they are readable, accurate and meet the scope and sequence requirements of student courses. OpenStax College will disscuss their efforts of improving access to high-quality learning materials by working with authors, developers, and partners to substantially lower costs for students.

OER Commons: OER Commons is an initiative created by the education non-profit ISKME, who helped pioneer the OER movement. Since 2004, OER Commons has impacted millions of teachers and learners as a hub for the discovery and improvement of high-quality digital resources that are free, open, and available for a diverse range of learners.

Learnist: Learnist (formerly Grockit) is a company developing collaborative, rich-media learning experiences on the web and mobile devices. After Grockit helped millions realize better academic performance and higher admissions test scores, the application of social learning was broadened via Learnist.

We're also pleased to announce our moderator, Rip Empson of TechCrunch. Rip is a writer and rabble-rouser at TechCrunch, the leading technology media property dedicated to obsessively profiling startups, reviewing new Internet products, and breaking tech news. Rip chooses to cover startups because "some of those startups are the next Googles, Facebook, and Twitters of the world, they just can't afford the office space yet."

Within the Wacky World of startups, Rip's emphasis is on health and education. "He enjoys writing about not only startups and things that are disrupting the disruptable disruptions, but ideas that are actually going to change the world. And make it a better place. That's why he follows book larnin' tech and next-gen stethoscope apps. Also because he's a hypochondriac and he never graduated from fifth grade."

Drinks and light appetizers will be followed by the panel discussion. We’ll conclude with an open Q&A session, and guests are invited to stick around for drinks and mingling.
