The Skanska Academy for Small Business

Most small businesses are started by individuals or groups, who know how to 'do something', 'make something' or 'sell something'. For most small, emerging, and expanding businesses, the bulk of their time is spent on ‘doing’, ‘making’ or ‘selling’ that product or idea that got them into business in the first place. Very little time may be left for issues like business development, certification processes, and learning how to actually win more of the business, more of the time.

As a recent example, the Federal Stimulus Funding, and local ‘Measure’ funding reaches into the hundreds of millions of dollars. Construction projects throughout the State and Region will need a steady stream of businesses and their employees to complete the projects currently on the drawing board. And yet many Minority or Women – owned UDBE / DBE firms and firms that could be certified are not currently in a position to capitalize on this huge financial windfall.
