      SOUTH YUBA RIVER BACKPACK: 20 Miles 6500ft. 2 Days/1 Night!

      JOIN A GROUP OF WILDCAT BACKPACKERS on the 2nd backpacking trip of the season! One of the longest, wildest footpaths of the Gold Country follows the wild and scenic South Yuba River. With 6400ft of elevation gained and more than 7300 feet lost along the entire length, this will be a formidable hike and a great opportunity for Wildcats looking for a challenging overnighter! Prepare for a great hike, swimming in the river and fun times around the campfire!! For a complete description of the trail and to view route click here: Map & Description LOCATION: South Yuba River S.P. near Tahoe National Forest: Approximately 3 hour drive from San Francisco/Oakland area. DISTANCE: 20 Miles. TYPE: One Way/Car Shuttle Required. Preference given to participants who can drive & offer rides. DIFFICULTY: Strenuous due to elevation gain and distance. GUESTS: No, Wildcat Members only. GROUP SIZE: 8-10 Wildcats. COST: $20 Prepayment to be donated to a Wildlife Conservation Group. CAMPSITE: We will be setting up at a primitive site near the river. No amenities except that which nature provides. All garbage is to be packed out. WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Very Fit, experienced backpackers/hikers who have the necessary gear for an overnight back-packing trip and are capable of VERY strenuous day hikes with a back-pack. HOW TO SIGN-UP. To sign-up for this event you must answer the RSVP questions and join the waitlist. If you meet the qualifications for this event, the organizer will then ad you to the "YES" list. You are officially signed up for this hike when you have made the required pre-payment. If you need a ride or can offer a ride, please state this in your RSVP or use the discussion board. WHAT TO BRING: Warm Clothing, Tent, Sleeping Bag, Sleeping Pad, Swim Suit, Headlamp, Mosquito Repellant, etc. For a list of items to consider bringing on this event please use the following Back-packers checklist for a reference guide: Backpackers Checklist Please note, for this event you might consider packing very light & sharing gear due to the STRENUOUSNESS of this event. MEALS: Participants are responsible for all their own meals. We will have a campfire. WATER: Water is available at the campsite from the Yuba River but should be filtered. ITINERARY: Saturday Day 1: From Poorman Creek trailhead. Strenuous hike approximately 10 miles to Campsite. Sunday Day 2: Strenuous hike approximately 10 miles to cars at Purdon Crossing (our endpoint.) We then drive back to Poorman Creek where � cars await us. LINKS: Trail Description. Google Directions. South Yuba River State Park Site. DIRECTIONS The google link above will take you to the Purdon Crossing trailhead which is our initial meeting point. Purdon crossing is about 6 miles north of Nevada City. We will then take � the cars to the Poorman Creek trailhead which is where we start the hike from. To get to Poorman Creek from Nevada City drive about 13.5 miles east on Highway 20 to the Washington Road junction; turn left (north) and drive 5.5 miles down to Washington; then cross the bridge and drive 2.5 miles up Relief Hill Road to the Poorman Creek parking area.
