TVM Presents: Academic GPS, a College & Career Planning Program (for Scholars/Youth)

Why Academic GPS?  Parents and students alike depend on high school counselors to help them to navigate their academic journey into the college and (ultimately) career of their dreams. Unfortunately, local research reveals that the student to counselor ratio, in California is 750:1. No wonder why counselors don't have the time to provide the sort of service and support that families need.  So, if you're feeling a bit lost in what to do next...you're not alone.  The Academic GPS Program was created to prepare young scholars to be proactive and make an informed transition into their college and/or career life. Through our program, TVM Scholars will be armed with the tools necessary for successfully navigating through their high school journey. This program is available for students beginning in the ninth (9th) grade and will remain with them throughout their academic journey.  Benefits of Membership: College readiness workshops: Ready - Set - Go! Don't let high school graduation sneak up on you. We will review everything necessary for you to help your child navigate their academic journey into college! There are EIGHT REQUIRED MONTHLY TUESDAY NIGHT SESSIONS. Academic Coach & Mentor: Your young scholar will be assigned to an Academic Coach who will provide a personalized focus on their academic journey.  Monthly Check-in Meeting: Group check-ins as well as 1:1 meetings ensure that your child will not fall through the cracks amongst the thousands of other students. These meetings will be scheduled based on your child's schedule/availability. Here is what "Above & Beyond" looks like: Personalized college prep, leadership development, meaningful community service, college tours, world travel, and ultimately giving our scholars a competitive advantage throughout their academic journey.  Dinner Served with RSVP at 6:30pm; Meetings begin at 7:00pm - 8:30pm. Families welcomed to stay- but not required. Monthly membership & participation for youth  required. Quarterly parent/gaurdian meetings (youth not required) on Saturdays required. Parent/Gaurdian dates as followed - Sat 10/27 9-11a - Sat 1/26pm 9a-10:30a - Sat 4/27 9a - 10:30a Questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at 510.470.1721 or email info@thevillagemethod.org.   FAQs  Are there minimum age requirements to enter the event? One will need to walk about 3-5 minutes from the bus stop. Parking is available.  What should I bring into the event? You will be provided with a Academic GPS Prep Book & Assignments once your family has completed membership & registration.   How can I contact the organizer with any questions? Questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at 510.470.1721 or email info@thevillagemethod.org.   Do parents/guardians need to stay? You're always welcomed to stay- but not required. We will even take care of the dinner for the Scholars (with RSVP) at 6:30p... we just ask that you be on time to pick up your child at 8:30p.
