      Brazilian Independence Day

Dance lesson at 8:00 pm / Show at 9:00 pm

In celebration of Brazilian Independence Day, Balanço Brasil Productions and Ashkenaz present: Jorge Alabê’s “Pagode da Mesa”, Grupo Samba Rio Nota 10, and Samba Queen Maisa Duke.

Hot off the heels of their 2019 SFCarnaval 1st place victory in the Brazilian category (for the 3rd time!), Grupo Samba Rio brings the fire and electricity of an authentic Rio de Janeiro style bateria under the direction of master percussionist Jorge Alabê, with performance by dancer Maisa Duke. Opening the show is Pagode da Mesa, Jorge’s ‘samba pagode’ group featuring Catia Lund (vocal), Marcio Portela (cavaquinho), Brian “Morangão” (7 string guitar) and special guest percussionists, performing classic sambas from the golden age of acoustic Brazilian samba.

Maisa will also teach a samba dance lesson for those wanting to learn some fun samba steps.
