      Exploring the UC Berkeley Campus

It's back to school on this leisurely walk through the campus of California's first university. Greenbelt Alliance board member Bob Johnson will show us a mix of historic and modern architecture, some fascinating building interiors, and natural areas of the campus including Strawberry Creek and specimen trees. We'll also have the opportunity to ascend Sather Tower (the Campanile) for some great views.  This is one of the many walks featured in Bob Johnson and Janet Byron's book, Berkeley Walks. TOTAL DISTANCEThis is an easy walk of 3 miles with an elevation gain of about 225 feet (not including the elevator and some steps in Sather Tower).  LEADERBob Johnson WEATHER POLICYHeavy rain cancels. COSTFree; RSVP required. WHERE TO MEETWe'll assemble at the southeast corner of Center and Shattuck in downtown Berkeley. NOTESBring water, lunch, wear good walking shoes, and dress in layers. There is a $3 or $4 charge (depending on age) to ride the elevator to the top of the Campanile. If you have questions about this outing, email Ken Lavin or phone (415) 543-6771 x321.
