      Lucy Kalanithi speaking at the Burlingame Library

      Dr. Lucy Kalanithi will be appearing at the Burlingame Public Library on Sunday, September 15th. She will be in conversation with novelist and book critic Susanne Pari. Lucy is the widow of Dr. Paul Kalanithi, author of the #1 New York Times-bestselling memoir When Breath Becomes Air, which was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and translated into over 40 languages, and for which she wrote the epilogue. She will be discussing the book and its themes of loss, hope, coping, navigating the health care system and the power of literature.

      Tickets will only be available online at BurlingameLibraryFoundation.org. A limited number of VIP tickets at $95 will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 19, and general admission tickets at $35 will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 26. VIP tickets include admission to a private reception with Lucy Kalanithi and Susanne Pari at 5 p.m. and early access to seating. General admission tickets are for her presentation at 6 p.m.

      This is the second event this year in the Speaker Series offered by the Burlingame Library Foundation, which supports free programs for all ages, new technology and other enhancements to Burlingame’s two libraries.

      Dr. Lucy Kalanithi is an internist on faculty at the Stanford School of Medicine and an advocate for culture change around end-of-life care and healthcare value. A graduate of the Yale School of Medicine and the University of California-San Francisco's Internal Medicine Residency, Lucy is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. She has implemented novel delivery models of care across primary care, hospitals and health systems, including as a postdoctoral fellow in healthcare delivery innovation at Stanford's Clinical Excellence Research Center. She serves on leadership boards for TEDMED, the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care and the American College of Physicians. Lucy has appeared on NPR, PBS Newshour, Yahoo News with Katie Couric, Elle and in The Washington Post and The New York Times.

      Susanne Pari is the novelist and author of THE FORTUNE CATCHER. Her essays and book reviews have appeared in The New York Times Sunday Magazine, The Boston Globe, The San Francisco Chronicle, NPR and Medium.
