      "Luna Mexicana"

      Oakland Ballet Presents Luna Mexicana

Luna Mexicana is a dance and music celebration of the iconic Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). In this show, a young woman’s dreams revive her relatives and friends, who all dance back to life in the forms of teetering skeletons, skirt swishing girls, a high flying “deer dancer” and a deathly Bride and Groom. This family-friendly performance is filled with festive dancing, colorful costumes, and vibrant music, including traditional Mexican folk music and witty electronic fusions. You’re encouraged to attend in Day of the Dead attire. Gather in the lobby prior to the performance to visit the ofrendas provided by the Oakland Museum of California and enjoy refreshments including tamales, pan de muerto, Mexican hot chocolate and more. This year’s Luna Mexicana program will include the return of Viva la Vida! – celebrating the life and artistic vision of iconic Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo – created by Artistic Director Graham Lustig in collaboration with Martín Romero, Artistic Director of Ballet Folklórico México Danza.
