Description

One of the most opulent and elegant concert halls in California is easily the Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. Located on the corner of Grove Street and Van Ness Avenue and a part of the San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center, the concert hall's schedule is primarily full of performances by the San Francisco Symphony. However, the Davies Symphony Hall also presents performances like piano recitals, lectures, performances from mainstream artists, and performances by visiting symphonies.

The Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall first opened in 1980 after years of the San Francisco Symphony, Opera, and Ballet all sharing the War Memorial Opera House. The concert hall is built like a building within a building, making sure the inner symphony chamber receives no noise from the outside. There are also special panels that can adjust to maximize the sound depending on audience size, and to adjust the reverberation. Another exciting feature of the Davies Symphony Hall is the Fratelli Ruffatti pipe organ that was added in 1984, which can electronically adjust to music from the pre-baroque period on and for both German and French keyboard organization.
